SECTION A: INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (20 Marks)

Answer any TWO questions from this section.

1 (a) Outline four functions of the control panel in a computer system.
ANSWER:

  1. Modifying system settings.
  2. Managing hardware devices.
  3. Adding and removing software.
  4. Configuring network and internet connections.

(b) Identify the network topology and explain its features.
ANSWER:

  • Network Topology: Star Topology
  • Features: Centralized management, easy to troubleshoot, failure in the central node leads to network failure.

2 (a) Distinguish between upgrading and updating in a computer system.
ANSWER:

  • Upgrading involves installing a new version of a software application or hardware for enhanced features.
  • Updating involves modifying the existing version with patches, bug fixes, or minor enhancements.

(b) Explain the functions of each of the following features in a word processor:
(i) Font
(ii) Header
(iii) Footer
(iv) BOLD
ANSWER:
(i) Font: Defines the appearance of the text characters.
(ii) Header: Text that appears at the top of each page.
(iii) Footer: Text that appears at the bottom of each page.
(iv) Bold: Makes the text thicker for emphasis.
