INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

The paper consists of SIX questions.
Answer FOUR of the SIX questions in the answer booklet provided.
Candidates should answer the questions in English.

This paper consists of 4 printed pages.
Candidates should check the question paper to ascertain that all the pages are printed as indicated and that no questions are missing.

1.
(a) Categorize each of the following items as either Income (I), Expense (E), Asset (A), Liability (L), or Capital (C):

  1. Accounts payable
  2. Drawings
  3. Rent received
  4. Building
  5. Cash
  6. Fees received

Answer:

  1. Accounts payable: Liability (L)
  2. Drawings: Capital (C)
  3. Rent received: Income (I)
  4. Building: Asset (A)
  5. Cash: Asset (A)
  6. Fees received: Income (I)

(b) Distinguish between reference manual and registered manual as used in artificial intelligence.
Answer:

  • Reference manual: Provides comprehensive information on system commands and functionalities, often used by developers or system administrators.
  • Registered manual: A formal document registered with regulatory bodies or organizations to comply with standards or certifications.

(c) Sketch the output that would be generated when the following sequence of commands in a Computer-Aided Design program are executed:

mathematicaCopy codeLine 100, 100
Line 200, 200
Arc 150, 150, 50
Circle 300, 300, 100

Answer:
A line from point (100, 100) to (200, 200), followed by an arc centered at (150, 150) with a radius of 50, and a circle centered at (300, 300) with a radius of 100.

(d) Explain three ways in which Geographic Information Systems (GIS) could be used in the execution of rescue missions.
Answer:

  1. Mapping and monitoring affected areas in real-time.
  2. Coordinating the deployment of rescue teams based on spatial data.
  3. Analyzing terrain to determine the most efficient routes for rescue operations.

(e) Explain the applications of artificial intelligence in each of the following areas:

  1. Stock trading
  2. Smart cars
  3. Customer service
    Answer:
  4. Stock trading: Predicting market trends and executing trades automatically.
  5. Smart cars: Enhancing autonomous driving capabilities.
  6. Customer service: Providing automated responses and customer support through chatbots.

(f) The following information relates to Temina Traders stock records for the year 2021.

  • Purchases on 01/01/2021: Ksh 2,327,500
  • Purchases returns: Ksh 234,000
  • Sales on 31/12/2021: Ksh 5,947,000
  • Sales returns: Ksh 312,000
  • Stock on 01/01/2021: Ksh 1,800,000
  • Stock on 31/12/2021: Ksh 2,589,000

Determine the cost of sales for the year for Temina Traders.
Answer:
Cost of Sales = Opening Stock + Purchases – Purchases Returns – Closing Stock
= 1,800,000 + 2,327,500 – 234,000 – 2,589,000
= Ksh 1,304,500

(g) State two circumstances necessitating scheduling of each of the following fixtures in a CAD program:

  1. Object snap
  2. Dynamic input
    Answer:
  3. Object snap: For precision placement of components in design, especially in mechanical parts alignment.
  4. Dynamic input: For interactive command input directly on the drawing area to streamline workflow.

2.
(a) Outline four basic functions of a Geographical Information System (GIS).
Answer:

  1. Data capture and storage.
  2. Data manipulation and analysis.
  3. Data visualization and mapping.
  4. Data sharing and dissemination.

(b) A designer used to use the fillet feature in a CAD program while creating a design. Outline two reasons for this preference.
Answer:

  1. To create smooth transitions between intersecting lines or edges.
  2. To enhance the aesthetic appeal or structural integrity of the design.

(c) Skyline GIS Company has been advised to hire the following categories of employees:

  1. Cartographers
  2. GIS Programmers
  3. Remote sensing specialists

Explain the services that each of the above employees could provide to the company.
Answer:

  1. Cartographers: Creating accurate and detailed maps.
  2. GIS Programmers: Developing and maintaining GIS software applications.
  3. Remote sensing specialists: Analyzing satellite or aerial imagery data for spatial analysis.

(d) Explain each of the following accounting terms:

  1. Provision for depreciation
  2. Historical cost accounting basis
    Answer:
  3. Provision for depreciation: An allowance made to account for the reduction in value of an asset over time due to wear and tear.
