1. State the function of each of the following tools as used in DTP applications:

(a) Preset tool
(b) Connected line tool
(c) Hand tool
(d) Polygon frame tool
(8 marks)

ANSWER:
(a) Preset tool: A tool that allows users to quickly apply predefined settings or styles to elements in a document.
(b) Connected line tool: A tool used to draw lines that are connected to each other, typically for creating shapes or complex designs.
(c) Hand tool: A tool used to move or pan around the document without selecting or editing elements within the document.
(d) Polygon frame tool: A tool used to create a polygonal frame for holding text or images in a desktop publishing layout.

2. Joseph, a draughtsman, has acquired a CAD software to draw architectural designs. Outline four advantages of using this software.

(4 marks)

ANSWER:

  • Accuracy: CAD software allows for precise measurements and reduces errors in design.
  • Efficiency: Speeds up the design process by automating many tasks.
  • Modifications: Makes it easy to edit and update designs without starting from scratch.
  • 3D Visualization: Allows for creating 3D models to better visualize the final product.

3. State two differences between a petty cash voucher and a cheque.

(4 marks)

ANSWER:

  • Petty Cash Voucher: Used to record small expenses paid from a petty cash fund.
  • Cheque: A formal written order directing a bank to pay a specific amount from the account holder’s funds.

4. With the aid of a sketch, explain the function of each of the following tools as used in CAD:

(a) Hatch
(b) Break
(8 marks)

ANSWER:
(This question would require a sketch, which we will skip.)

5. Outline two examples of colour models used in DTP stating their applications.

(8 marks)

ANSWER:

  • RGB (Red, Green, Blue): Used for digital screens like monitors, TVs, and projectors.
  • CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black): Used for printing purposes.

6. The following figures have been extracted from the records of Mwitu Kanzu relating to transactions for the month of January 2017:

Opening stock Ksh 50,000
Purchases Ksh 150,000
Closing stock Ksh 25,000
Expenses Ksh 10,000
Cartage inwards Ksh 4,000
Returns inwards Ksh 11,000
Sales Ksh 114,000

Calculate the gross profit for Mwitu Kanzu for the month of January 2017.
(8 marks)

ANSWER:

  • Gross Profit Calculation:Sales = Ksh 114,000
Less Returns Inwards = Ksh 11,000
Net Sales = Ksh 103,000Cost of Goods Sold (COGS):
    Opening Stock = Ksh 50,000
    Add Purchases = Ksh 150,000
Less Closing Stock = Ksh 25,000
    COGS = Ksh 175,000

Gross Profit = Net Sales – COGS
    Gross Profit = Ksh 103,000 – Ksh 175,000
Gross Profit = Ksh (72,000) (Gross Loss)

7. Peter, an engineering student, has been hired by his instructor to set up appropriate page layouts for printing a survey in CAD. Outline three concepts of page setup that Peter would use.

(6 marks)

ANSWER:

  • Page Size: Selecting the appropriate paper size for printing the designs.
  • Margins: Defining the space between the content and the edge of the paper to ensure nothing is cut off.
  • Orientation: Choosing whether the page will be printed in portrait or landscape format.

8. Harriet wants to insert text in her poster created in a Desktop Publishing (DTP) application. Outline four formatting properties of text applied to design.

(8 marks)

ANSWER:

  • Font Size: Adjusting the size of the text to suit the design.
  • Font Style: Changing the appearance of text (e.g., bold, italic, underline).
  • Alignment: Positioning text in relation to the page (e.g., left, center, right).
  • Text Color: Choosing the color of the text to match the design theme.

9. Explain each of the following terms as used in accounting giving an example in each case:

(a) Prepaid expense
(b) Accrued income
(6 marks)

ANSWER:
