1. Explain each of the following types of colour fill as used in a Desktop Publishing Program:

(a) Radial gradient
(b) Linear gradient
(2 marks each)

ANSWER:
(a) Radial gradient: A fill style where color transitions from a center point outwards in a circular fashion.
(b) Linear gradient: A fill style where color transitions linearly from one point to another, often horizontally or vertically.


2. Distinguish between object leading and object enfolding as used in Desktop Publishing programs.

ANSWER:

  • Object Leading: Refers to the vertical space between lines of text in a document.
  • Object Enfolding: Refers to wrapping text around an image or graphic object within a document.

3. State a circumstance that would necessitate the use of each of the following features in a Desktop Publishing program:

(a) Clipboard
(b) Pasteboard

ANSWER:
(a) Clipboard: Used when copying or cutting text or objects to move them to another part of the document or another document.
(b) Pasteboard: Used to temporarily store items like text or images that are not immediately needed within the document layout but will be used later.


4. Figure 1 is to be modified to obtain Figure 2 in a Computer Aided Design program. Outline two commands that would be used to achieve the change.

5. A CAD designer used the following types of lines in a drawing. Outline the function of each line in the drawing:

(a) Continuous thick line
(b) Dashed line
(c) Thin chain line
(d) Wavy line

(b) Dashed line: Represents hidden details or edges that are not directly visible.

6. Explain each of the following terms as used in a CAD program:

(a) Hatch
(b) Offset

ANSWER:
(a) Hatch: A pattern or fill used to represent materials or sections in a CAD drawing, often for shading or to differentiate areas.
(b) Offset: A tool used to create a copy of a selected object at a set distance from the original, often used for creating parallel lines or objects.


7. A CAD designer applied each of the commands to a rectangle:

(a) Trim
(b) Explode
Explain the effect of each of the commands on the rectangle.

ANSWER:
(a) Trim: Removes or cuts away parts of the rectangle along the specified edges, reducing its size or shape.
(b) Explode: Breaks down the rectangle into its individual components, such as lines and corners, which can then be edited separately.


8. Outline four features of the cash book.

  1. Two columns for cash and bank: One for recording cash transactions and another for bank transactions.
  2. Double-entry system: Each transaction is recorded on both the debit and credit sides.
  3. Date column: To record the date of each transaction.
  4. Narration or description: Space to explain the nature of the transaction.

9. With the aid of examples in each case, explain each of the following terms as used in accounting:

(a) Revenue
(b) Expenses

ANSWER:
(a) Revenue: The income generated from normal business operations, such as sales. Example: Sales income from a product.
(b) Expenses: Costs incurred in the process of generating revenue. Example: Rent, salaries, and utilities.


10. The following transactions relate to Muli Ltd:

July 10: Cash purchase of furniture worth Ksh 15,500
July 15: Credit purchase of North Ksh 20,400 from Uma Traders.

Show the journal entries for the above transactions.
